This weekend the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League will crown their champion of Senior lacrosse. Saskatoon Brewers and Moose Jaw Chiefs will meet in a best-of 3 series starting Saturday in Regina. Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday night. Game 2 is set for Sunday at 4:00 PM with a mini-game to follow (if necessary). Both games will be played at Kinsmen Arena.
The weekend championship is a rematch of 2014 when Saskatoon defeated the first-year Chiefs in the final 16-9. A year later the teams still sit atop the PGLL Senior division, finishing 1-2 in the final standings.
Moose Jaw captain Jeff Kitts commented on the rematch saying, “we are eager to hit the court in an attempt to exact revenge on the Brewers from the 2014 PGLL final. This final should be a great display of senior lacrosse in Saskatchewan.”
Saskatoon Brewers (12-1-0) have won two of the past three league titles and are looking to continue their domination of the PGLL. Established in 2005, the inaugural season of the PGLL Senior division, the Brewers are the second-oldest franchise in the league (Regina Heat – 2003). Saskatoon took 3-of-4 games against Moose Jaw during the regular season.
In just their second year of play the Moose Jaw Chiefs (9-4-0) have proven themselves to be a team to watch in Saskatchewan. The veteran roster have made an immediate impact in the PGLL, finishing just behind the Brewers both seasons.
