Blazers Win Boston Boxla League Championship

The league’s top scorers came through on its biggest night as Brandon Dube and Marty Bowes combined for seven goals, leading the Blazers to the winter championship in the Boston Box Lacrosse League in an 8-5 April Fools’ Day slugfest win over BullsEye at the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham.

After a frenetic, up-and-down opening stretch that set the pace for the night, Randy Fraser opened the scoring on a brilliant solo dash across the goalmouth. From there, it was all Dube (four goals, and a league-leading 36 for the session) and Bowes (three goals, 31 for the session) and the Blazers trademark dominant defense.
Bowes broke a 3-3 tie late in the first half and BullsEye was never able to catch up, with Joe Evans stopping 24 of the 29 shots the underdogs were able to put on the cage and Dube netting both of his team’s scores in the second half.
BullsEye got two goals each from Jesse Fehr and Greg Lally with Brian Krol netting the team’s other marker. Chuck Jaffe stopped 28 shots on the night.
The Blazers earned both the fall and winter titles with victories over BullsEye, going 9-1 in each session. In both sessions, Dube led the league in scoring, with Evans topping the league in save percentage.
The Boston Box Lacrosse League will host a summer session beginning in June — with details released soon — and then will return to the floor with its traditional fall and winter sessions next fall. For more information, go to or write to
