The Canadian Lacrosse League has reached the midway point of the season and two teams have established themselves as the teams to beat. Ohsweken Demons are undefeated and look to be a strong contender to win their second Creators’ Cup. Their main competition is coming from the Niagara Lock Monsters, who the Demons host on Friday at ILA.
Ohsweken are loaded with offensive talent, scoring 73 goals in their four league games. Chris Attwood, Jason Henhawk, Josh Johnson, Tom Montour and Wayne VanEvery all have double-digit point totals. The 2012 champions are the team to beat.
After five games Niagara have had their way with the league, with the exception of the Demons. In their only head-to-head matchup Ohsweken came away with a convincing 14-11 victory. Bryan Neufeld and Andrew Potter lead the team in scoring with 27 points each.
The three other CLax teams seem to be chasing the top two with the Southwest Cyclops having some success early on. Durham and Barrie have yet to make a mark.
Week 4 had just two games with Southwest and Ohsweken coming out winners. The Cyclops picked up their second win of the season on Saturday, defeating Durham 18-14. Jimmy Purves scored five times for Southwest to lead all scorers.
On Sunday host Barrie Blizzard were looking for their first victory of the season against Ohsweken. The Blizzard made several changes during the week, including on the bench. Brad MacArthur took over for Barrie GM Rob Blasdell, who also completed a five-player trade during a busy week. It wasn’t enough to overcome the league-leading Demons, who went on to win 18-10.
