Boxla Weekend Preview

A fairly quiet weekend coming up for the lacrosse world. Just five total games are on the schedules of the Canadian Lacrosse League and National Lacrosse League | NLL.

It’s Week 4 for CLax, with two teams looking like the teams to beat. Ohsweken Demons (3-0) defeated previously undefeated Niagara Lock Monsters (3-1) on Family Day to take the top spot in the standings. The three other league members are all chasing the top two at the moment. SouthWest Cyclops (1-2) have a chance to get to .500 and solidify their third place position when they host Durham (1-3) on Saturday. New head coach Brad MacArthur will make his bench debut for Barrie (0-3) on Sunday when the Blizzard host Ohsweken.

In the NLL it will be an important week for the struggling Minnesota Swarm (1-6), who travel east to face the Toronto Rock (3-4) and Philadelphia Wings (3-6). A pair of victories over division rivals could get the Swarm in the Champions Cup playoff mix. Opposite results could spell the end of any playoffs hope for Minnesota.

In the only other NLL matchup this weekend Rochester (5-2) travel to Alberta on Saturday night to face Calgary (4-3). Rochester won their first road game of the season last week, defeating Toronto in impressive fashion 17-9. The Roughnecks will be searching for their third-straight victory following last weeks 20-9 destruction of Vancouver. The matchup features two of the top six scorers in the league: Sean Evans (10 goals, 37 assists) of Calgary and Knighthawks leading scorer Cody Jamieson (17 goals, 23 assists).

Upcoming games:
Saturday, February 22

Sunday, February 23
NOTE: All game times are listed as Central Time (CT).
