Swarm Look To Stop Rush Winning Streak

A pre-season favorite to contend for the National Lacrosse League | NLL Champions Cup, things have not gone they way Head Coach Joe Sullivan would have liked for the Minnesota Swarm. A dismal 1-5 record near the midway point of the NLL season is where the young Swarm team finds itself. Things don’t get easy anytime soon for Minnesota, who host the Edmonton Rush, a league-best 6-0, tonight at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Offense has been the missing ingredient for Minnesota early on, averaging just six goals per game in their first five games. Things have improved recently for the Swarm, scoring 12 and 13 goals in their past two games, but the results have been the same. Minnesota lost 15-13 to the Calgary Roughnecks in back-and-forth game last weekend and will be looking to turn those close losses into victories.

Edmonton have simply been the best team in the NLL all season. The top ranked defense have allowed just 45 goals so far, including six in their most recent victory. Scoring has been somewhat of a concern the past few weeks though, but the Rush have found ways to win.

The two teams have some history and a bit of a rivalry, traced back to the 15-3 beating that Edmonton handed the Swarm in the 2012 NLL West final. A number of players have also changed teams over the past few years so their are plenty of familiar faces on both benches. Despite the opposite records, both teams expect a close, hard-fought game.
