WLA Draft Preview

It is draft day for the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA). The depth of talent in this years draft-eligibles looks deep and could make for interesting draft-day decisions. The WLA Draft will take place at Langley Events Center beginning at 6:45 PM (Pacific) and will stream live on the WLA website here.

WLA Draft order:

  1. Coquitlam Adanacs
  2. New Westminster Salmonbellies
  3. Maple Ridge Burrards
  4. Coquitlam Adanacs
  5. New Westminster Salmonbellies
  6. Victoria Shamrocks
  7. Nanaimo Timberman

The Coquitlam Adanacs hold the top pick in the 2014 draft, which has not clear top selection. Consensus among WLA insiders seems to lead to two names: Tyler Garrison and Jesse King.

Making his debut in the Mann Cup playoffs, Jesse King (Victoria Jr. Shamrocks/Ohio State) saw his stock rise with a stunning display of skill, scoring a hat-trick in Game 1 of the finals. At 6’3 200 pounds, King has a dead-on accurate left handed-shot and scoring ability.

Playing his second season in the National Lacrosse League | NLLTyler Garrison (Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs/Vancouver Stealth) is the top defender in the draft. Opting to declare for the NLL Draft a year early, Garrison played all 19 games with the Stealth last season. Currently has a team-high 47 loose balls so far for Vancouver, adding eight points.

Another Vancouver Stealth player (practice squad), Sean Lundstrom (Langley Thunder/Vancouver Stealth) had a career-high 39 goals and 48 assists in 25 BCJALL games last year. Could be the top conditioned athlete available.
