CLax Preview: Durham Turfdogs

2014 will see a different look on the GM Centre floor and the Durham Turfdogs. A 7-7 regular season (2-5 at home) was disappointing for a team with the best record just one year prior. New General Manager Dave Colbourne brought back just eight players from the 2013 squad, injecting 17 new faces in hopes to bring the Turfdogs back to the top of the CLax standings.

Durham selected 10 players in the Toronto Shooting Stars dispersal draft, including three top scorers in Derek Hopcroft, Brad Levick and Mack O’Brien.

Top returners:

  • Scott Defrancesco: 23 G, 16 A
  • Nick Grasby: 19 G, 34 A
  • Russ Poulton: 5 G, 16 A
  • John St. John: 14 G, 16 A
Derek Hopcroft
Top newcomers:
  • Nick Diachenko: 35 G, 4 A with University of Delaware
  • Dylan Goddard: 57 G, 117 A with Green Gaels Jr. B
  • Derek Hopcroft: 18 G, 23 A with Toronto Shooting Stars/Buffalo Bandits
  • Brad Levick: 10 G, 33 A with Toronto Shooting Stars
  • Mack O’Brien: 26 G, 14 A with Toronto Shooting Stars
  • Gavin Prout: 8 G, 33 A with Colorado Mammoth
Durham begin their 2014 season on February 8 when they play host to the Barrie Blizzard.

UPDATE: The Rochester Knighthawks announced late Wednesday night the signing of Derek Hopcroft to their practice squad. Details:
